Born on August 5, 1930 in Auglaize County, OH, Neil Armstrong was the eldest of 3 children. Neil Armstrong worked at numerous jobs around town and at the nearby airport so he could take flying lessons at the age of 15 and on his 16th birthday he was issued a pilot's license. Neil Armstrong won his jet wings at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida at the age of 20, the youngest pilot in his squadron. Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon on July 20, 1969 durin the Apollo 11 mission.
